Bovenstaande indeling is deze gehanteerd door de AHTA (American Horticultural Association); meer info AHTA en Horticultural Therapy .
In Britse benaming ‘Social and Therapeutic Horticulture” merken we dat er enigszins andere klemtonen worden gelegd.
“Social and therapeutic horticulture is the process of using plants and gardens to improve physical and mental health, as well as communication and thinking skills. It also uses the garden as a safe and secure place to develop someone’s ability to mix socially, make friends and learn practical skills that will help them to be more independent. “
In de praktijk kunnen de disciplines mekaar overlappen. Het zijn overwegend de 3 eerste disciplines die centraal staan bij tuintherapie en waarbij de inschakeling van een tuintherapeut aangewezen is.
- Horticultural therapy is the use of plants by trained professionals as a medium thorough which certain clinical defined goals may be met.
- Therapeutic horticulture is the process by which individuals may develop well-being by using plants and horticulture. This is achieved by active or passive involvement.
